The chukka is a low boot with a short lacing, usually two or three pairs of eyelets, that reaches just above the ankle. Here the eyelets are two pairs, hidden in the leather, and the quarters, meaning the side panels where the laces run, are stitched on top of the upper, as in a derby. Suede is a leather buffed on the flesh side, meaning the inner side: it has a soft nap and a matte surface. The vintage finish gives it a non-uniform colour: the blue is lighter and almost dusty on the sides, darker and glossier on the toe and heel, like a leather already worn by use. Each pair therefore has slightly different shades. The water-repellent treatment makes it more resistant than regular suede to light rain and splashes, which are its weak point. The short lacing closes in a few seconds and leaves the ankle free to move. The laces are round, waxed and black. On the back there is a suede pull tab. The toe is round and clean, without decorative stitching. The sole is in black rubber, thick, with a deep-lugged tread that provides grip on wet and uneven surfaces. The manufacturer states it is flexible, meaning designed to bend with the foot despite the thickness. Along the perimeter, between upper and sole, runs a visible stitching. Inside, the lining is in leather and the insole is in padded leather.
